Salford City Academy students usually make their options choices (for subjects studied to GCSE) in Year 9, however, we have made the decision to change the process this year in order to maximise student progress.
This year we are asking Year 8 students to choose 3 or 4 ‘pre-options’ - dependent on whether they are in X or Y band (based on literacy.)
Students will study these ‘pre-options’ for Year 9 only and they will then have the opportunity to keep these options in Years 10 and 11, or change them for the start of Year 10.
This will give students more time on subjects that they have chosen and should enable staff to prepare them thoroughly for their linear exams, which should result in better GCSE outcomes.
Students will also be asked to take 1 English Baccalaureate option, which they will keep all the way through to the end of Year 11.
To help our students through this process, they will have access to a range of IAG (independent advice and guidance) ranging from assemblies, Connexions meetings, Options Taster sessions, a Parents Information/Parents Evening, plus gain advice from their personal mentors during registration time.
If you require further information about this process, please contact your child’s personal mentor in the first instance, Head of Year, or Miss Birchwood, Head of School.
