Bright Spark Kane's Candle Business is a Winner!

Budding entrepreneur Kane Whitehouse, aged 14, has his sights set on a bright future, care of his Yankee Candle business.
Kane, a Year 10 student at Salford City Academy, has had a head for business from an early age, working at Salford Reds (where he was rewarded for his efforts with match tickets) and progressing into paid work now he has turned 14, selling raffle tickets, flags and programmes on match days, as well as helping out on fun days.
The junior mogul hit on the idea of selling candles earlier this year after visiting his mum at mega Sun, where she operates a hair and beauty service, and noticed their Yankee Candles range.
Kane decided to sell the products to family and friends, using Social Media to help him advertise his wares. Within weeks, his initial supply had been snapped up.
Now Kane, who is studying BTEC Business at the Academy, has been given permission to sell his candles to staff at the Academy, where his gran works as part of the catering team.
Kane explained:
“Staff at the Academy have been great, giving me help and guidance, particularly as my ambition is to become an investment banker. A good head for maths has also been helpful with calculating my business’s costs, revenue and profit.”
Salford City Academy Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE commented:
“We’ve been really impressed by Kane’s entrepreneurial flair, particularly when he was asked to give a presentation about his candle business to the School Improvement Board, who gave it their blessing.”
