Express Takeaway Science Homework

The Science department has introduced an interesting new homework initiative offering students a selection of generic homework choices from a takeaway style menu.

The scheme will be offered to students on a half-termly basis to increase student choice and engagement with homework.  Teachers will still set standard homework as part of lesson extension but ‘Express Takeaway’ will be used to meet department aims.

Mr Rodgers, Head of Science, said: “So far our students love this; they love being able to choose their own homework and the creativity it enables.”

The types of choices include “Cross-Curricular Curry” which encourages students to look at links between Science and other subjects.

Year 10 student Charlie Mechan chose “Easy Bake Science Cake” and created a fantastic cake inspired by a key topic of the development of the periodic table.

Another choice is “Family Fondue” which promotes parental engagement and student assessment for learning by asking students to teach their parents and then mark their work!
