School Games Silver mark awarded for third successive year

Salford City Academy has received the prestigious School Games Silver Mark for the third successive year, in recognition of its sporting provision across the community.

The School Games Silver Mark is a Government led initiative and Ofsted recognised standard, launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition both in the school and out into the community.

Awarded retrospectively, Salford City Academy has been recognised for its sporting provision across the 2015/16 academic year, including:

  • At least two hours of PE and school per week for all students
  • More than half of students taking part in extracurricular sporting provision
  • Leadership opportunities in PE and school sport, with 10% of students engaged in leading, managing and officiating school games activities
  • Strong links with local clubs including Manchester Handball Club, City of Salford Volleyball, Lancashire County Cricket Club and Salford Reds

The academy also offers sporting provision to its feeder primary schools, supported by its School Games Crew to lead and officiate.

Commenting on the award, Salford City Academy Executive Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE said:

“We are incredibly proud to have once again been awarded the School Games Silver mark for the third successive year. The academy is a strong advocate for the impact and importance of PE and school sport in children’s lives and this award is welcome recognition of our commitment to that.”
