"The Academy is moving rapidly forward" says Ofsted
Ofsted inspectors have praised the progress underway at Salford City Academy.
Following a disappointing inspection in January, Ofsted has now returned on a Monitoring Visit and seen evidence of the improvement that has taken place since then.
Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE and her team have introduced a raft of improvements which have already begun to take effect.
The report says:
“The palpable feeling of an academy moving rapidly forward was apparent in speaking to senior leaders, teachers and students. Senior leaders also have a strong understanding of their individual portfolios and their collective responsibilities to drive improvement and promote higher aspirations.”
In addition, the report also highlighted the following:

Improved attainment and achievement in mathematics, English and science at GCSE in 2014

More students making expected progress and better than expected progress in English and mathematics

Tracking and monitoring systems are well embedded and working

Students increasingly take pride in the academy and their own work
Inspectors also praised the academy’s governing body and the support being provided by United Learning, of which the academy is part, stating: “Strong support is offered across the United Learning family of academies and from specialist staff in aspects of teaching and learning, teacher professional development and management improvement.”
Welcoming the report, Salford City Academy Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE said:
“Whilst we recognise there is still much to be done, we are very pleased with Ofsted’s findings which reflect the hard work and resulting progress being made at the school. Everyone is working hard to drive improvement across the school and we are flourishing through the team spirit that this has created”.
