Year 9 learn about the Holocaust

We’ve recently welcomed visitors from the Holocaust Educational Trust to work with our Year 9 students as they learn about the Holocaust.

Caroline Slifkin joined us on 25th November to deliver a session on Holocaust art and spirituality.  Students looked at spiritual resistance through art during the Holocaust.  They learnt that Jewish prisoners in the concentration camps created artwork in defiance against the Nazis.

They then created their own powerful artwork which the academy will display on Holocaust Memorial Day in January 2017.

On 18th November Year 9 students heard testimony from Holocaust survivor, Joanne Milner, as part of another visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust.

The visits will help students to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth.
