Students Get to The Root of the Problem

As part of the new national curriculum framework for Maths (September 2015), Salford City Academy has been working with United Learning Maths Advisor, Carole Sharp, to introduce problem-solving and reasoning into every Maths lesson.

Carole takes up the story:

“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with the Maths department and the great students at the Academy. Since 2014 I have seen some real changes in the classroom. The Maths team are working really hard to incorporate new and different ways of teaching Maths to try and make the subject much more enjoyable for the students.

There have been major changes to the National Curriculum for Maths and the department has put together a range of exciting problems to be put into lessons.

Year 7 and 8 pupils also have the opportunity to practice and improve their numeracy skills during their lessons using the Rainbow Numeracy Resources.

I can see that much more progress is being made by the pupils due to all the hard work and creativity from the Maths team.”
