Salford City Academy brings science to life for primary pupils

The wonderful world of science is revealed to primary pupils, when Salford City Academy stages the latest of its themed festivals.

The festivals form part of the Peel Green school’s transitional programme, helping to give youngsters a taste of life at secondary education by taking part in activities they wouldn’t normally get a chance to do at primary school.

This month and next, the academy’s Science Technician Sharon Irving has prepared an action packed and ‘hands on’ programme of activities for Year 4 to 6 pupils from Barton Moss, Westwood Park, Beech Street, Godfrey Ermen, St Andrews, Christ Church and Lewis Street primaries, including exciting experiments, seeing how chemicals can change state and looking at how the heart works.

The academy has also held English and Languages themed festivals on the 18th and 25th January.

Salford City Academy students are also attending the festivals at their former primary schools to assist the pupils and answer questions about life at secondary school.

Commented Salford City Academy’s Acting Principal Kieran Larkin:

“Through our dedicated transition programme, our aim is to make the move from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible. The festivals are a great way of making that process both exciting and fun.”
