Year 7 Take to the Skies

Students design and test parachutes

Year 7 have begun a brand new topic about ‘Forces’ in Science.

In order to learn about air resistance, students first designed their own parachutes.

They then tested their designs against each other to see which flew for the longest by dropping them over the academy staircase!

To develop their skills in planning and carrying out scientific investigations, the class planned the experiment and used three different materials to test which made the best parachute.

Science teacher, Miss Vickers, said:

“Students were really focused during the activity and were extremely creative when coming up with ideas.”
