At Salford City Academy we feel it is important to help make excellent progress in your child’s learning by reinforcing crucial information beyond the classroom.
Research indicates that for homework to be most effective, it should be carefully organised and monitored. To help structure this important aspect of their learning, all students at Salford City Academy are issued with a Knowledge Organiser. The purpose of this is to set well-structured and challenging homework that strengthens their understanding of key information, concepts and subject specific terminology, with the aim of embedding this key knowledge in the long-term memory for easy future recall, reducing the cognitive load of the student and allowing them to develop extended schema over time.
They should keep all old Knowledge Organisers safe for revision purposes. The students receive a new Knowledge Organiser for each new topic they are taught. It should be brought to school every day, and will be checked as part of their required equipment. Students should carry their Knowledge Organiser in a plastic wallet to protect it from damage.
For clarity, each subject will be printed on a different coloured paper.
All students have been provided with a knowledge organiser booklet that covers all of the key material that they need to be able to recall for the entire school year. The more often that students use the knowledge organisers, easier it will be for them to recall and use the key information in the long run, leading to greater chances of exam success. It also allows students to read about future topics in advance, providing a head-start on their learning.
The booklets for each year group can also be accessed electronically by clicking the links below. They have been designed to be easy to used across tablets, mobile phones and laptops.
