Become a Governor

Salford City Academy are looking for additional school governors to join their Governing Body.

Make a difference to a school within the Salford local community and help to shape futures. Become a Governor at Salford City Academy and you could do just that.

Being a school governor can be a rewarding activity. We welcome interest from individuals who share our commitment to the importance of offering an excellent education to all young people attending Salford City Academy. No experience of governance is required as we offer training and a buddy system for our new governors.

At Salford City Academy, we place high value on the contributions made by our Governing Body. They bring objectivity to the role, promoting the best interests of all the students in school. Whilst this is a voluntary role, it is one that we all try to approach with professionalism. School governance demands considerable time (most meetings take place after school) and effort from everyone involved and we can discuss the time commitment involved with you in more detail.

In return, successful governors can expect to be challenged and stimulated, developing a deeper understanding of current issues in education. It can also be great fun! Successful schools are transformational: you will be integral to the continued success of Salford City Academy. If you are interested in becoming a governor, click here to register your interest.

What is involved?

School governors offer strategic guidance, rather than getting involved in the operational aspects of a school. This involves:

  • Working with other board members to plan the school's strategic direction.
  • Overseeing the school's financial performance, ensuring money is well-spent.
  • Holding the headteacher or school leadership to account.

A school governor's relationship with the school's leadership team involves challenging existing processes to drive school improvement. School governors usually attend around six meetings per year. Although becoming a school governor requires drive and commitment, you'll enjoy many professional and personal rewards, including career development opportunities and the chance to support young people's futures.

You can be involved in many activities as a Governor, ranging from:

  • Data analysis and monitoring.
  • Wellbeing initiatives for both students and staff.
  • Student and staff voice interactions.
  • Internal audits in areas of the school that interest you.
  • Invitations at events including our annual Open Evening, Achievement Evening and other school celebrations.

Governance offers a fantastic opportunity to extend your experience and develop your leadership skills.
