100% success rate for Salford City Academy Sixth Formers

Salford City Academy's Sixth Form students are celebrating a 100% pass rate for the sixth successive year. 95% of entries in A Level and equivalents achieved A*-C grades whilst an impressive 80% achieved A* and A grades.

Jon Davies, the academy’s Head of Sixth Form, said:

“For our students to maintain the academy's 100% success rate yet again is an outstanding achievement and well deserved recognition of the hard work of not just our students but also the staff within the academy's Sixth Form.

“The supportive, individual focus we provide ensures that all our learners make the best of opportunities available to them and achieve their aspirations.”

Distinction Star Success for Nichole Crooks and Ellie Scott

Amongst the academy's Sixth Form success stories are Nichole Crooks and Ellie Scott, who have each achieved distinction* grades across the board in their BTEC qualifications.

Thanks to her success, Nichole is now headed to the University of Manchester to study Child Nursing with aspirations to work in the NHS. She achieved an impressive four distinction* grades in BTEC Business Studies and BTEC National Sports Extended Diploma.

Ellie Scott has achieved three distinction* grades in Art and Design, Forensic Science and Health and Social Care BTECs. Ellie is looking to pursue her dream of working as a pathologist, having landed a place studying Forensic Science at Liverpool John Moores University.

Ellie said:

“I am really happy to have my results and excited to go to University, though it’s a bit scary that I’ll be living away from home! My Forensic Science teacher at the academy has been so supportive, and I am looking forward to studying the subject and know that I have to work hard.”

Niamh is Looking Forward to Leeds

Student Niamh Canavan is thrilled to have achieved a distinction* in BTEC Sport Sub Diploma and a double distinction in her Beauty BTEC. Her fantastic results have landed her a place studying Sport and Exercise Therapy at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Niamh said:

“I didn’t think I’d actually get it, I’m so excited and can’t wait to go to University now! I am looking forward to moving in with different people and having new experiences.”

Niamh is keen to work with sporting injuries in the future, and found that work experience at an Army residential whilst at the academy helped her learn determination and leadership, giving her the confidence to pursue her dream career. She added:

“The Army residential taught me that you have to just go for what you want. I learnt a lot about discipline and working hard.”

Shi to follow Marine Biology Dream

Student Shianne Moran is excited to be pursuing her goal of working as a marine biologist – something she has dreamed of since she was six years old.

With a distinction* in Business and Forensic Science BTECs and a double distinction in BTEC Sport Diploma, Shi will join the Wildlife Conservation with Zoology course at the University of Salford.

Shi said:

“My dad gave me a shark book when I was six and since then I have known that I want to study Marine Biology. My dream is to attend a specialist Marine Biology college in the future, in Swansea or on the Isle of Man. I’m looking forward to a new start and am really pleased with my results.”

Shi hopes to make the most of opportunities to travel during her undergraduate course, adding:

“I would love to travel the world with my job, and hope to go abroad to Australia, Kenya or America for a year of my course. It will be difficult to choose which one but it would be amazing to see the Great Barrier Reef.”

Salford City Academy staff have helped Shi to follow her dream and she is grateful for all the support she has received. Shi explained:

“The whole Sixth Form team have encouraged me so much, and been very supportive throughout my university application. All my teachers have been brilliant during my time at the Sixth Form and the academy.”

Catering for a broad range of learners, Salford City Academy Sixth Form constantly adapts its curriculum to meet all learners’ needs across Level 2 and 3 pathways. The Sixth Form is now looking forward to welcoming its largest ever cohort in September.
