Year 7 visit the University of Manchester to develop their interest in university life and courses available.
Year 7 Gifted and Talented students were invited to join others children from the county to visit the University of Manchester.
The day was an introduction to university life and a taster of the courses and opportunities on offer.
After a talk about university and further education by undergraduates in their final year, the students moved on the various stations.
These stations asked students to play different games, learning about topics from various degree courses including human geography, physics and marketing.
As well as a tour, students then had the opportunity to participate in a Q & A session and talked about the difference between school and university.
Year 7 student Jake said: “It gave me a brighter impression of university; we learnt about all the hard work but also about the social side.”
Fellow Year 7 Brandon said: "It made me want to go to university even more.”
Year Leader Miss La Bella said:
“The students were a pleasure to take on this trip and a credit to the school. It was great to see them interacting with peers form other schools and also leading on tasks. All involved were highly engaged, polite and respectful.”
She added: “Speaking to them all afterwards, this trip was highly purposeful in asking them to think about, and want to, take steps towards higher education.”
The Academy will be repeating the trip through years 8-11, to give students an opportunity to look at the various stages of university.
