Year 7 Peer Mentors celebrate completing their training

Our Year 7 students have completed 5 weeks of training to become fully fledged Peer Mentors.

Mrs Jones, Transition Co-ordinator, said:

“These students are a fantastic addition to our Peer Mentor team.  They’ve all been really enthusiastic throughout the training.  They’re all keen to help Year 6 pupils as they approach the move to secondary school as well as helping those that choose to come to Salford City Academy settle in.”

The group has undertaken training to develop their listening and communications skills, undertaken role playing tasks and learnt about confidentiality and knowing which members of staff to direct students for help.

Each of our Peer Mentors, both in Year 7 and 8, are role models for younger students and their aim is to be an inspiration, support for any problems, a friend and source of help or information.

For each of our feeder secondary schools, there are two former pupils acting as their peer mentors.  They will visit old friends at their primary schools to answer all their questions about the academy, joining secondary school and finding their way around, and will also help organise and run events at the academy for prospective pupils and parents.
