Year 11s experience life at Salford City Academy Sixth Form at a taster day.
Year 11 have taken part in a Sixth Form taster day at Salford City Academy to help them make the decision regarding their college options for further education next year.
Over 60 pupils attended the day and experienced four taster lessons each, choosing from a range of L2 and L3 BTEC courses.
As well as discovering course content, students had the opportunity to get hands-on experience. For example, students learnt all about food preparation in BTEC Hospitality and Catering, casualty-style make up in BTEC Beauty, artist Kathe Kollwitz in BTEC Art and wearing baby bumps and finding out firsthand the effect of pregnancy on your body in BTEC Childcare.
In addition to the interactive taster sessions, students also completed their college application forms with support from the Connexions team and KS5 Inclusion Manager Amy Barlow. Connexions commented that the Salford City Academy Year 11s were one of the most engaged groups they’d ever worked with through this process.
Jon Davies, Head of Sixth Form, said:
“I visited the lessons all day and saw the range of activities taking place; the students were really engaged and interested in the courses on offer. I’m excited to see the students’ applications come in so that in the New Year we can confirm places for September.”
