Salford City Academy Sixth Form student Lucy Lengden has been rewarded with her commitment to the Fire Service by meeting Prince Harry.
Prior to Christmas Prince Harry visited the Salford Fire Station to meet the fire fighters who had cleared up after the Salford riots in 2010. Lucy was invited to meet him as the station's longest serving Fire Cadet.
Lucy joined the Fire Cadets in 2012 and has spent the last two years working to achieve a BTEC Fire and Rescue award.
Lucy is now training to become a Junior Instructor of other BTEC Fire and Rescue students.
Lucy’s Cadet Leader invited her to the event but, as a surprise, only told her she’d be meeting the Prince on the day!
Lucy said:
“When I met him I couldn’t get my words out and he asked me loads of questions!”
The Prince asked Lucy about her length of service to the cadets, her reasons for joining and whether her friends were interested in and supported her fire training.
Lucy’s dream is to become a fire fighter and she is determined to secure an apprenticeship when she has completed BTECs in PE, Forensic Science and Health and Social Care in the Academy Sixth Form.
She adds:
“I really want to become a fire fighter and they don’t recruit often, so my plan is to stay close and keep my eye on any opportunities with them.”
