On Wednesday 6th May, Year 10 Citizenship students took part in a Bite the Ballot day organised by Business in the Community North West.
The primary objective of the session was to enfranchise young people and get them engaged in politics, registered to vote, and then exercising their democratic right to vote when they come of age (18-24).
Alongside volunteers from PZ Cussons and the University of Salford, students first participated in a ‘Vote with Your Feet’ activity. This exercise was designed to get everyone discussing the key election issues and events that directly impact them.
Another activity challenged students to make decisions about how to spend (and save) the country’s money, to build their understanding of how their money is spent and how budget decisions at government level are made.
Katie Pursglove, Head of Humanities. Said:
“Bite the Ballot really encouraged our students to give their opinions and highlighted that everyone’s opinion, and vote, is valid. Our students enjoyed some interesting debates and ‘voting with their feet’”.
