Local dads are stars of the show at summer fair
The focus was on fatherhood when Salford City Academy hosted the finals of the ‘Men Behaving Dadly’ competition alongside its first ever Summer Fair on Thursday (26th May).
Held at the school’s Northfleet Road site, the fair saw primary school children from across the area take part in a variety of craft activities and games, all with an Olympic theme to celebrate the pending games in Brazil this summer.
But the real stars of the show were the local dads, whose efforts were celebrated through the ‘Dadly Does It’ project, coordinated by local social enterprise, Unlimited Potential.
As part of the scheme, which aims to help local people make a real difference to their lives and communities, children were asked to say what made their dad the best using poems, drawings, models or videos to tell their story.
Over 30 families were then invited to the academy (on the same day as the summer fair) to see the winners receive their prizes from the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Karen Garrido.
Salford City Academy Principal Helen Mackenzie added:
“The day has been a double success! The children attending our first summer fair had an excellent time and it was a pleasure to celebrate the fantastic work done by local fathers through the ‘Dadly Does It’ project.”
Chris Dabbs, Director of Innovation at Unlimited Potential, said:
“It was great to see so many dads being recognised by their children. We hope to engage more fathers across Winton during the next two years to show how they can improve their children’s lives through improving their own well-being.”
