On Tuesday 27th January, Salford City Academy hosted an inter-school Debate Mate competition.
The first heat took place in the Academy’s Sixth Form facility and was attended by Salford City Academy, Wright Robinson College, Stretford High School, The Albion Academy, Co-operative Academy of Manchester and Manchester Academy.
There were two debates on the night; the first was a prepared debate about selling your organs and the second was about whether parents should have access to their children’s social media.
A massive “well done” to the following students who have been training for weeks at after school sessions:
Jenny McPhee, Zoe Buckley, Ilsa Khalid, Precious Tunde- Olaitan, Megan Travis, Niall Loates and Dylan Southern.
Salford City Academy students all performed really well. Jenny, Ilsa, Precious and Zoe won the second debate of the night against The Albion.
Rachel Swaby, Debate Mate co-ordinator for Salford City Academy said:
“Our teams showed great confidence and professionalism and reflected on their first round performance and used this to top up their standards for the second debate, which they won!”
“Some of the other schools had already experienced competitive debating, our students gave a very impressive first performance and they received some fantastic feedback.”
Points of both debates will now be collated and placed on the league table in preparation for the second competition on 9th March.
