Salford City Academy hosted not one but two esteemed authors in the space of a week, with each writer proving to be a hit with students!
Firstly, Stewart Foster came into SCA to speak with our Year 7s. Stewart has been nominated for the Salford Children’s Book Award and his books include ‘The Bubble Boy’ and ‘All The Things That Could Go Wrong’.
After speaking to his audience about what inspires him as a writer, Stewart worked with around 30 students on a special writing workshop. This involved encouraging them to visualise various scenarios before incorporating that into their own original story.
Literacy Co-ordinator Mrs Hawley said: “It was brilliant seeing the students so engaged during Stewart’s visit and he actually told me that they were one of the best groups he’s ever worked with, which is quite a compliment!”
One week later, Year 8 students were lucky enough to meet author Alan Gibbons, who talked to them about his background and how he became a writer. Later, he met with student librarians to speak with them about their work and sign their books.
Mrs Hawley added: “Alan was an inspiration during his visit and our students were captivated throughout. We are so lucky to have this talented writer, who has written over 70 books on topics ranging from the Hillsborough Disaster to Wayne Rooney’s childhood biography, to work with our students.
“Thank you so much to both Alan and Stewart for coming into SCA and sharing their valuable experience and knowledge!”
