EXCITING RENOVATION PROJECT UNDERWAY AT SALFORD CITY ACADEMY
~ Students to benefit from improved teaching and learning facilities ~
~ Expansion funded by Salford City Council and United Learning after school increases student intake ~
This month, Salford City Academy (SCA) is embarking on an exciting renovation project which will see significant improvements to several learning spaces as well as the creation of new performing arts, ICT and science facilities.
Funded by Salford City Council and United Learning, the project will enable the academy to increase its student intake after receiving a record number of applications for Year 7 this year. As a school that is increasingly being recognised as a first-choice for students and parents, the expansion project will ensure that SCA can continue to serve the local community in the years to come.
With construction due to begin next half-term, the project will involve the refurbishment of teaching and learning areas in the school’s Main Block and Irwell Building. This will include improvements to existing science areas as well as the creation of two new ICT Suites and additional classrooms. Likewise, a new Performing Arts provision will be created to complement existing facilities giving students access to a state-of-the-art facility where they can hone their creative talents.
Alongside this, there will be a significant extension to the academy’s dining room which will see the existing provision double in size. Once the project is complete, students and staff will be able to access both hot and cold lunches from the dining hall with minimal queuing. Likewise, they will have the option to eat in a new outdoor space, with improved shelter and seating.
The refurbishment will take place throughout the Summer and Autumn Terms, with completion expected in November 2021.
Melanie Haselden, Principal at Salford City Academy, said:
“We are very excited about this expansion programme which will allow us to comfortably accommodate more students and give them access to the fantastic learning opportunities on offer at Salford City Academy. The improved facilities – particularly the new performing arts spaces – will enable us to unlock our students’ creative talents and give them the chance to participate in a wide range of performing arts activities.
“As a result of a marked improvement in standards at the academy, more and more local families have been choosing Salford City Academy for their children. We are very proud to serve the Eccles community and look forward to welcoming even more children in the coming years.”
Councillor Jim Cammell, lead member for children’s and young people’s services at Salford City Council, said:
“These expansion works will not only provide superb new facilities for pupils but will also create an additional 150 places to meet the demand for secondary school places in our fast-growing city.”
