On the 30th June 2014, Year 10 learnt all about budgets and banking at a Personal Finance Day organised by the Salford Business in Education Partnership.
BEP facilitator Rachel Hindley said:
“The aim of the day was for students to develop knowledge about how to budget their money according to different lifestyles.”
Students worked on budgeting for housing, food, clothing, travel, health and transport with additional ‘challenge cards’ thrown in to test their finance skills further, such as finding extra money for a person with a medical condition. As well as calculating weekly food shops and holidays, students also learnt about current and savings accounts, credit cards and even cheque writing.
Nada Mahyoub, Year 10, said:
"It was more difficult than I thought to afford the things you want. When we looked at houses, it included mortgages and bills - it was surprising how much it all cost!”
Thank you to the BEP for delivering a very informative day for our students.
