Students compete in 'Stand Up for Salford' event
A group of Year 9 and 10 drama students have been involved in project in association with the Greater Manchester Police and Crimestoppers.
Salford schools were challenged to create plays to perform in a ‘Stand Up for Salford’ competition on Tuesday 17th May to promote the Fearless campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the impact of gang crime and the Fearless service, where young people can report crime anonymously.
Academy students have been working with a professional actor from Rhema theatre since March to develop their own devised performance about gang violence and being drawn into gangs.
Eight schools competed at AJ Bell stadium; Salford City Academy’s team included:
Year 9: Morgan Burtwhistle, Grace Green, Gerard White, Oliver Leftley and Molly Burtonwood
Year 10: Caitlin Thompson, Precious Oladele and Jake Kennedy
Miss Sanderson, English and Drama teacher, said:
“Our students performed really well; it was unfortunate that they didn’t win but their play had a fantastic message for their peers – young people should speak out.”
