We are delighted to announce that Year 10 student Filip Kaminski won the ‘Sportsman of the Year' (Year 10-13 category) at the United Learning ‘Best in Everyone' Awards on Friday 5th July 2013.
Filip's award recognised and celebrated his remarkable talent and achievements in volleyball since joining Salford City Academy. This academic year he was selected for Volleyball England's North Boys' squad.
As well as representing the academy in the School Games local and northern events, Filip plays for Volleyball England's affliated club Newcastle Staffs, which has taken him abroad, and also trains for the Volleyball England's North Boys squad at prestigious venues around the UK. In September 2013, Filip will represent this squad at the School Games national competition.
Jon Coles, United Learning's Chief Executive said: "With a mission to ‘bring out the best in everyone', it is important for United Learning to take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate those who contribute the most to making this statement a reality."
The inaugural awards ceremony took place at Surbiton High School and guest speakers included ex-Premier League footballer, Stewart Castledine, and triple British Winter Olympian skier, Chemmy Alcott.
