Salford City Academy’s Debate Mate students voiced their opinions at an event on Thursday 18th June.

Ilsa Khalid, Precious Tunde-Olaitan, Niall Loates, Zoe Buckley, Connie Boardman, Alex Vongtanasopon-Norris, Megan Travis and Dylan Southern visited The People’s Museum to take part.

Five schools in Salford joined three debates about the X-Factor, the English curriculum and cosmetic surgery on the NHS.

Organisers Salford Council and the Salford Youth Council also delivered workshops about activism and debating and communication skills.

Rachel Swaby, Debate Mate Co-ordinator at Salford City Academy said:

“The students enjoyed the day and also joined the Salford Youth Council to have their say in government and local issues; they’ll be invited to meetings with their local MP once a month.”
