Since September, our Student Council has influenced many decisions within the Academy.
The Academy's Student Council has been involving students in the decision-making process on a number of issues. Since September, student feedback via the Student Council has led to a number of new initiatives:

Whole school feedback suggested that students would like a sandwich bar facility added to the canteen to increases the range of sandwiches available.
|
March 2015: After a trial, we introduced a Subway-style sandwich bar into the canteen every Tuesday and Thursday. |
On the subject of options choices, students asked for a more realistic and accurate idea of what subjects would be like at Key Stage 4, especially those they had not done before.
|
March 2015: We introduced an 'Options Week' to include an 'Options Taster Day' and 'Options Fair' to enable students to experience new subjects, as well as talk to teachers and other students. |
Students asked for more non-uniform days. |
December 2014: The 'best' mentor groups in terms of perfect weeks win non-uniform days at the end of terms.
March 2015: To support Comic Relief we held a whole school non-uniform day for a £1 donation.
|
Students wanted more charity fundraising and to be able to choose their own charities to support.
|
September 2014: Each year group selected a charity of their choice and events have been organised. For example, Year 11 students vs staff football match for Alan Hennings Fund.
|
Students asked for more clarity on the Academy's bullying policy and also sanctions for fighting. |
February 2015: We held a series of 'Standards and Expections' assemblies, sent a letter home to parents, and made the consequences of fighting in school clear.
**We will also be launching an anti-bullying text service to allow students to message staff anonymously about their concerns.
|
Students asked for equipment to be made available from a central point. |
March 2015: Pupil Services is now manned by prefects every morning before school and at break so that students can buy stationery, ties and planners.
