On Tuesday 11th February, representatives from Business in the Community and PZ Cussons came into the academy to work with six Year 8 students. The students worked in two groups to enter the Mosaic Enterprise Challenge, a competition to create a new product and set up a virtual business with a “budget” of £1 million.
As well as coming up with a product to sell for a profit, the students were required to understand the environmental, economic and social impacts of the business. The mentors were on hand to provide tips on running an ethical business and the implications involved.
Both teams decided on a mobile phone as their chosen item and set about planning and designing their product. The students came up with some excellent ideas for their businesses and worked well as teams. Judges scrutinised the entries from 100 different teams based on business decisions and the profit they made. Congratulations to Team 1 members Ellis Donoghue, Charlie Rushworth and Alethea Biesty, who have made it through to the regional finals.
