The On Track to Achieve project has culminated in an assembly and multisport activity morning delivered by our Year 9 students.
Louis Farrington, Lewis Dowling, Sam Bowcock, Bradley Doyle, Connor Green and Daniel Walton have been mentored by British and European Skateboarding Champion Neil Danns since March.
This morning’s assembly, produced and delivered by the group, talked about lessons learnt in sport by famous athletes as well as themselves.
The main message was ‘failure is success.’ All the athletes they discussed had failed at some point in their careers but have changed their attitudes and succeeded.
Next for the boys in Year 8 was a morning of multisport activities in teams, organised by the students.
This was the chance to showcase and utilise all the skills they have developed over the 12 week project, including presentation and communication, being a good leader, encouraging enthusiasm in others and team building.
Neil Danns said: “To see the boys step out of their comfort zone and use all the skills we’ve implemented over the past 12 weeks today is fantastic.”
The multisport activities were devised by the group and included an assault course, a ‘buddy’ game leading a blindfolded teammate around a course, football golf and handball!
Neil adds: “Overall this project has been a massive success and it’s been rewarding to see the boys set goals, change their attitudes to learning and become role models for other students, plus have fun along the way!”
