We are delighted to introduce Salford City Academy’s first team of Peer Mentors!
Our recruits are Year 7 students and have been specially invited to take on this role to assist year 6 students make the move from primary to secondary, and then to help as they settle.
There are two Peer Mentors for each of our feeder primary schools and the pupils are linked to their old schools. Our students’ first job will be to visit their primary school and complete a question and answer session with the new intake for September.
The Peer Mentors will join any Year 6s on the ‘Stepping Stones’ day and will also meet students from non-feeder schools to introduce themselves.
The whole group have completed three training sessions to develop their listening and mediation skills, how to recognise feelings such as sadness, learning about confidentiality and knowing which members of staff to direct students to for help.
Miss Daniels, KS3 Inclusion Manager said:
“Our Peer Mentors have been selected because they have demonstrated kindness, responsibility and trustworthiness; we know that they will be there for those that have worries about high school and will help impact their transition process.”
