Year 9 students have been celebrating what the future has in store for them at a special event that recognised the work they’ve put into planning for their careers.
The DEVA (Digital Entrepreneurs Video Artists) Ceremony was hosted at SCA in our Main Hall, with the full year group invited. Parents also attended, along with representatives from Salford City Council, Greater Manchester Higher and mentors involved in the programme itself.
The event focused on the work Year 9 students have been doing to create their own video CVs, which has involved them discussing how they can sell themselves, writing their own scripts and then delivering what they have produced in front of a camera.
Speakers on the night emphasised the increasing importance of investing in young people using modern technology and how digital media can offer an advantage to jobseekers when they finish their education. They also praised students for operating outside of their comfort zone throughout the project, before announcing the winner of the ‘Best CV’ that had been submitted by students in the year group.
Tristan-Lee Rowley picked up the top prize, and was presented with a trophy and a £100 Amazon voucher in recognition of his outstanding work, with judges noting that his passion and enthusiasm really shone throughout the process.
SCA Aspiration Lead Mrs Monks said: “The video CV project has been a brilliant adventure for us this year, and has given students a modern, more engaging opportunity for them to sell themselves and give potential employers a real feel for who they are – something that a paper CV simply cannot do.
“We are grateful to GM Higher and CV Videos for supporting us and our students, and this should really give SCA students an advantage when it comes to entering a competitive jobs market in the future.”
