Lewis Street Primary visits Salford City Academy Science
We were delighted to welcome Year 4 from Lewis Street Primary School for a Science Festival on Wednesday 20th April.
Pupils examined evidence of chemical reactions and then had the opportunity to do some experiments which demonstrated their discoveries. These included the fizzy reaction of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, as well as observing the temperature change when magnesium is dropped in acid.
Pupils then made “rainbow fizz”- their own pH scale in a boiling tube using acid, alkali and universal indicator! Pupils showed great skill and patience to achieve this.
Finally, pupils enjoyed demonstrations of chemical reactions such as burning magnesium, reacting hydrogen peroxide with potassium iodide (called “elephant’s toothpaste” as it produces a LOT of foam) and then some big BANGS as we set hydrogen gas alight!
Suzanne Vickers, Science Teacher, said:
“It was a fantastic session. The pupils were amazing; so well behaved and they showed great science knowledge and skills!
