Salford City Academy is helping bring smiles to the faces of children around the world this festive season with its support for Operation Christmas Child.
The Academy's R.E. teacher Heather Collins co-ordinated the project, setting a whole school challenge for mentor groups to collect and fill as many shoeboxes as possible with gifts to go to children less fortunate than themselves.
Ms Collins explains:
“During the last four weeks we have appealed to students, parents and staff to donate toys, educational supplies, hygiene items and wrapping paper, helping to create exceptional gift boxes. Students even gave up breaks and lunchtimes to help wrap the mass of boxes – an enormous task in itself! “
And this week Operation Christmas Child’s organisers Samaritan’s Purse collected an incredible 210 shoeboxes from Salford City Academy.
Added Miss Collins:
“Our ultimate aim was to make this the biggest and most successful shoe box appeal ever and we have easily achieved that, beating the 75 total donated in 2010. We can’t thank everyone enough for all their support and donations which will have a real impact on the lives of children around the world this Christmas.”
