Students take part in an exciting and unique musical opportunity
In partnership with the Rugby League, CHANT Productions visited the academy to engage with the group of students in a workshop programme specifically designed to create a choir of professional standard.
The students involved were: Alethea Biesty (Year 10), Grace Green, Zoe Buckley, Gypsy Nichols and Lauren Bithell (Year 9), Katrina Lockitt, Lucie Welby and Gabby Davies (Year 8) and Leah Glascoe, Megan Dixon, Reece Birkett, Erin Welsh and Abraham Greef (Year 7).
On Saturday 14th November, the group joined together with Accrington Academy, Central Academy and adult choirs to form a 300-strong CHANT choir and sing live on the rugby pitch at the DW Stadium. This performance was for the massive audience of 24,741 fans at the Rugby League Autumn Internationals: England v New Zealand.
The performance included a pop medley, hymn ‘Jerusalem’, the New Zealand national anthem as well as our own with singer Lizzie Jones and featured on BBC Sport.
Jo Landon, Music Teacher, said:
“It was a super experience and an amazing opportunity provided by United learning and CHANT productions. Student behaviour was exemplary; a real credit to SCA. We all had a fab day!”
