Year 6 start making steps towards secondary school

Salford City Academy has been welcoming groups of primary children, due to join Year 7 in September 2017, for a series of Stepping Stones days.

The initiative is part of the academy’s dedicated Transition programme, which aims to support pupils moving from primary to secondary school.

Pupils from both feeder and non-feeder schools are taking part in the days to meet fellow new starters and enjoy a treasure hunt, which takes them on a tour of the academy.

Pagan Jones, Transition Mentor, said:

“These days are all about dispelling any worries about the move to high school, making some new friends so there are some familiar faces in September and introducing the pupils to the secondary setting.”

The Year 6s are also participating in a creative session, learning to draw a self-portrait using items in a collage to describe their personality.

Our Year 7 Peer Mentors are dropping to these sessions to talk about Salford City Academy and answer lots of questions!

Each pupil received a certificate of achievement from the day as well as a colourful pencil case full of all the equipment needed for high school.
