Year 9 students were invited to attend Stockport Academy’s annual Christmas Lecture on Wednesday 3rd December.
Charlie Rushworth, Alexander Clarke, Lewis Dowling and Elizabeth Fayoyin attended and the theme for this year’s lecture was Pyromania; it opened with a ‘bang’ and a shower of confetti!
Student Charlie said: “We didn’t expect the first explosion, it was very loud!”
Students learnt about the chemistry and physics behind fireworks, for example, they discovered why they are colourful and why they whistle or bang.
Over 100 students from all over the North West attended and were treated to a series of dazzling displays and detailed explanations – there were many flashes, explosions and covering of ears!!
Alex said: “It was much better than a normal lesson!”
Stockport Academy physics teacher, Emma-Jane Brazier said: “Hopefully this type of event will inspire some of our future scientists, who will stand shoulder to shoulder with the greats.”
