Salford City Academy students boost numeracy skills with visit to Old Trafford
A group of Salford City Academy students visited Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium on Thursday 26th March, with their passion for football used to help boost their engagement in maths.
The group of Year 9 students took part in a variety of motivational numeracy and literacy sessions, helping improve their abilities in maths, as well as their communication skills.
The session included a data handling challenge using league table figures from 2013-2014, with the students keen to impress!
Richa Singh, Maths teacher at Salford City Academy said:
“We hope that the visit to Old Trafford and subsequent challenges will impact both on student's progress in the subject of maths, as well as helping to boost their overall confidence.”
During the visit and as a reward for their performance in their numeracy work, the young mathematicians were given the opportunity to try on kits and boots worn by their Manchester United heroes, as well as being given a tour of the Old Trafford stadium and museum.
Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE said:
“It's pleasing to see our students responding so positively to the challenges they experienced during their visit to Manchester United, which has helped them to develop and improve their academic and personal skills.”
