Students visit local Russell Group University to explore future study options

All Salford City Academy Year 9 students recently visited our neighbours at the University of Manchester to explore their GCSE options and pathways to future further and higher education study.

The visit to our local Russell Group University aimed to inspire and support all academy students’ decision-making process with their forthcoming GCSE options. The event also enabled students to experience, first-hand, what studying at university is all about.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of workshops discussing and exploring the vast array of courses available at higher education. Enact performing arts group and students from the University of Manchester were also on hand to offer some invaluable information, advice and guidance on how to choose the right GCSE options in order to prepare for further and higher education.

All students had an enjoyable day, many commented that their experiences gave them a more informed understanding of what studying at university is all about. As a result, many agreed that they cannot wait to progress to higher education programmes at a university or college in the future.

Feedback from the visit was very positive from all students who attended. Ibrahim, in Year 9, said “Today was a great experience which showed us a bit about what life is like at a university and what to expect. It helped me understand what courses are available.”

Caitlin added “Personally, my visit to the University of Manchester has really inspired me to want to go to university and to graduate in something that I enjoy in the future. The student ambassadors supporting the event were particularly helpful as they discussed various different things about university life and all the available opportunities that are out there.”

Jacey-Lea also summarised her visit by saying “The trip to university was really good fun because we got to see different places within the university. I especially liked the performance at the end about university life.”
