Assemblies this week invite students and staff to come together to raise funds and supplies in support of the refugee crisis.
The academy is planning to hold a number of fundraising events to help support refugees in their plight for safety.
Students and staff will carrying out a range of sponsored events and these are going to be different for each year group. All mentor groups will be in competition to raise the most amount!
Students can fundraise in friendship groups or by class. We will announce one winner per year. The deadline for all donations, including supplies, is Friday 2nd October.
The local charity the academy is supporting, ‘Salford to Calais’, is asking for items for the following:
- Hygiene packs e.g. toothpaste, toothbrush, soap
- Children’s packs e.g. crayons, colouring books etc
- Men’s items e.g. socks etc
One Year 8 student has come up with a fantastic scheme to raise funds and is asking staff and friends to sponsor her own ‘No Moaning’ day!
Lauren Monks, Psychology teacher, said:
“I think it is really important that we educate our pupils on a number of different issues in the world, particularly when on such a huge scale such as the Syrian Crisis. I hope our pupils, and staff alike, feel proud of themselves and realise the impact their generosity can have. This is really a great thing they are doing.”
