Celebrating partnership with PZ Cussons
Salford City Academy celebrated its long running partnership with one of the North West’s leading companies, PZ Cussons, at a recent event staged as part of The Prince’s Seeing is Believing programme.
Held at the Manchester Enterprise Academy and organised by Business in the Community (BITC), the event saw schools and businesses from across Greater Manchester come together to help ‘close the gap between the boardroom and the community.’
Helping to demonstrate the benefits of better business relations were students from Salford City Academy, who, along with their mentors from PZ Cussons, gave a presentation on their relationship – the longest running of its kind in the area.
The students were also invited to a networking lunch, where they had the opportunity to meet other business representatives, learning about their respective roles and organisations.
Year 9 Salford City Academy student Omar Ali commented:
“It’s been great working with our business mentors, who were very friendly and helped me to find out the areas I’m interested in, as well as good at. I also enjoyed working together in teams on presentation skills, which helped to build my confidence and has got me thinking about working in business in the future.”
International company PZ Cussons, which has a major site in Agecroft, is famous for such leading brands as Imperial Leather, Original Source and Sanctuary Spa and has been working with Salford City Academy since 2009.
The most recent output from the partnership has been the Mosaic Mentoring scheme, which sees volunteers from the company work alongside students for six months to help raise aspirations in academy life and beyond. In recent years, PZ Cussons has also supported academy transition events, helping students make the move from primary to secondary education.
Principal, Helen Mackenzie OBE, said:
“We’re delighted to have been given the opportunity to showcase the fantastic working relationships that we have developed with PZ Cussons. It’s incredibly important that our students start to develop an understanding and appreciation of the world of work as soon as possible and our partnership with PZ Cussons helps them to do just that.”
