Salford City Academy has been busy celebrating World Book Day with students.
In the library, as well as handing out a £1 book voucher to every child, students had a range of free novels to take home.
Mrs Wilkinson, Salford City Academy’s Librarian said: “This is a fantastic day for our students; it encourages them to try new authors from the range of free books and motivates them to read even more!”
There is also a fantastic national World Book Day competition for students to enter.
All students who enter will go into a draw with a chance of winning games, gift vouchers, t-shirts, stationery and more.
The grand prize is a VIP trip for a student and parent to meet Jeff Kinney, author of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ in the USA.
Good luck to all who entered!!
In the canteen at lunch, a special menu has been arranged to celebrate the day:
- Alphabet Soup
- A ‘Dickens’Dish - Please Sir can I have some more? Chicken in garlic and lemon that’ll have you begging for more
- Tolkien’s Treat - A giant ‘Cavetroll Burger’
- Harry Potter’s Hot Pot - The Voltermort Vegetarian – spicy mung bean and egg plant curry with a ‘wizard’ flavour
- Tolstoy’s Treat - Go to ‘war’ and get a ‘peace’ of this epic chocolate pudding, it’s the ‘write’ thing to do!
In addition there were several ‘spot’ prizes awarded throughout the lunchtime period in the canteen, which included books and gift vouchers.
