Local professional writer Jack Nicholls spent several hours with our Year 8 Boys to share his secrets on good storytelling.
Jack, who is an award-winning writer of poetry, plays and fiction, led a creative writing workshop focusing on aspects such as character development, creating a dynamic narrative and brainstorming story proposals.
After talking through their ideas, students were given time to put pen to paper to turn their thoughts into an actual story, which Jack then gave feedback on.
Literacy Coordinator Mrs Hawley said: “Thank you so much to Jack for spending the morning with us. Students were thoroughly engaged throughout and really enjoyed coming up with an original idea and developing it into a short story, resulting in some outstanding and emotive pieces of work.”
Students are now submitting their stories to the Portico Sadie Massey Awards, with the opportunity to win book tokens and have their work professionally published.
