In partnership with the Salford Business in Education Partnership, Salford City Academy has organised a day of mock interviews with our Year 11, 12 and 13 students.
At this stage of our students’ education, this day provides an opportunity for them to practice the process in preparation for impending interviews in the next 12 months. All students will be facing college, apprenticeships, employment or university applications.
Professionals from a range of local businesses, colleges and training providers joined the Academy to provide formal interviews for students, including:
DLA Piper, City West, Salford Foundation, GMP Police, National Citizenship Service, Manchester College, Salford City College, and North Lancashire Training Group.
Amy Barlow, Head of Careers at Salford City Academy, said:
“The interviews gave our students a fantastic opportunity to network with professionals, experience the format and process, and really sell themselves!”
Students answered real world interview questions such as “What are your aspirations?”, “Can you provide an example of teamwork” and “Do you hold any responsibilities?”
Sixth Former Sammy Whitworth said of her mock interview:
“I thought my interview was really good! My interviewer asked me about what I do outside of college and what I’m passionate about. I found him really easy to talk to and he gave me some great feedback about my body language and tips for my university interviews. I feel a bit more confident about them now.”
Deputy Head Boy Joe Mort said:
“My interviewer put me at ease and I felt relaxed answering all the questions. It’s given me a good foundation to build on for my college application interviews. I received good feedback about my application form and interview today; I was told I came across confidently and had good eye contact, and that my handshake was a good one!”
Interviewer PC Simon Quinn said:
“It’s been a really enjoyable day; it’s a different experience interviewing for jobs rather than crimes! All the students came across well, took the interviews seriously and tried their best. Feedback was taken om-board as well.
"I’m recommending Ellis In Year 11 for a certificate of achievement today as he was fantastic. He was very confident, evidenced lots in his answers and his passion for basketball shone through. If I was an employer, I would have offered him the job!”
