Student Leadership

Our Student Leadership programme supports this value, offering students the opportunity to take an active role in academy life, improve their confidence and further expand their knowledge and experience - all crucial to ensuring their success when they eventually depart for further education and/or the world of work.

Our student leadership framework is below, this outlines the roles we offer on our student leadership programme. Students have to apply for these positions and are appointed by staff at the academy - just like the world of work as mentioned above.

We are currently reviewing our Year 10 applications for Prefects and Head Boy & Head Girl positions from September this year.

Prefects are students who are a tremendous help to the school and play a particularly important role in mentoring younger students, feeding back students' opinions, organising year group activities and supporting directors of learning to improve student outcomes.

The position of a prefect forms a valuable part of a student's personal development, opening their mind to new levels of responsibility.

Introducing our Student Leadership Team

Our student leadership team include students from Year 7, 8, 9 and Year 10. Similar to a student council, the role of the student leadership team is to be the voice of students; to promote their interests and opinions. They should also consult with students to identify areas within the academy that could be improved and address any concerns.

The aim is for the student leadership team to support their year groups and organise activites that contribute to the school community. This year we have three main aims for the team to address, these are Enrichment, Behaviour and Community.

Student leadership team - leading change!

Our new dining room is well underway behind the scenes, after we returned from the Easter break the Student Leadership team met with the United Learning Estates team to discuss the options for the interior design and furniture of the new dining room which is due to be completed late December.

The design ideas include seating arrangements, colour, lighting, serving hatches and signage.

The student leadership team delivered assemblies to their own year groups to gather further ideas and collate a tally chart of a number of prototype designs.

The students will feedback to the estate's team so they can add to the build and discuss with the architect and contractor.

Mrs Eaton our Assistant Principal who has led on the project said "It's fantastic for our students to be able to design their own space how they want it - we want the space to feel safe and inviting. The students will use this space every day, that's why we've asked for their comments."
